Things to know about hydrafacial treatments

Hydrafacial treatments are a noninvasive way to improve the appearance of your skin. Here’s what you need to know about hydrafacial treatments, from how they work to their benefits.

What is a hydrafacial?

Hydrafacial treatments are noninvasive skin-care procedures that use water and steam to deeply cleanse and exfoliate the face, neck and chest. A gentle vacuum extracts impurities from pores and helps remove dead cells from the skin’s surface.

Hydrafacials are offered at high-end spas, dermatologists’ offices and medical spas. They’re also available in some department stores as part of an at-home system kit.

How does a hydrafacial work?

The procedure begins with an initial cleansing of the face using steam or water to open up pores. Next, a gentle vacuum is used to extract impurities from pores and exfoliate dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Finally, serums containing vitamins A and E are applied to help hydrate and nourish the skin while reducing wrinkles and fine lines over time.

What does it involve?

The hydrafacial treatment usually takes about 45 minutes and is carried out by a trained aesthetician in a clinic or spa environment. You’ll lie back in a reclining chair so that she can use the equipment on your face without you having to move around too much.

The first step is usually microdermabrasion, which uses a handheld device with small abrasive particles to loosen dead skin cells so they can be removed more easily. This is followed by an enzyme peel or other exfoliating product that improves circulation and stimulates cell turnover while removing excess oil from pores and reducing inflammation caused by acne scars.

The hydrafacial uses water jets, microcurrents and vacuum suction to remove dead cells from the surface of the skin. The treatment also includes an enzyme mask, which helps to improve the appearance of acne scars, fine lines or wrinkles by increasing collagen production in the skin. After your hydrafacial treatment, your technician will apply hydrating serums that have been infused with antioxidants and peptides (a protein produced by cells) to lock in hydration so that you can enjoy beautiful, healthy looking skin!

The treatment helps improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture. It can also address acne concerns such as blackheads and whiteheads, while improving skin hydration levels.

Hydrafacial treatments are recommended for all skin types but are especially beneficial for those with dry or sensitive skin that may not tolerate harsh exfoliation methods.

While there are many positive benefits associated with hydrafacials, it’s important to note that these treatments aren’t suitable for everyone — especially those who have active breakouts or eczema. These conditions might be exacerbated by the hydrating mask used during treatment.
